The fall sports banquet will be Tuesday at 6:00 in the multipurpose room. Supper will be provided. Everyone is welcome!

The Chad Cargill ACT workshop will be Friday, November 18th. Chad will teach students various strategies to improve their score on the ACT test. The cost of the workshop is $30.00. Bring your money to Mrs. Petrus by November 15th.

If you are a student who would like to get some community service hours, please come by Mrs. Miller’s room and sign up to ring bells for the Salvation Army. If you are a student in any of her classes she will give you bonus points for bell ringing! Time slots are limited, so this is a first come, first served opportunity.

Alexis Privette’s senior project is having a safety and use of handguns class for girls ages 15-19. If you have a pistol and would like to participate in this class on Saturday, November 19th starting at 8:00 a.m., please sign up in Miss Connie’s office by Wednesday.

JUNIORS: Don’t forget that if you want to order a junior class t-shirt your forms and money needs to be turned in by next Friday (18th) to Mrs. Brower.

3. MEDICAL EXPLORERS: The first meeting will be this Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at St. Francis Hospital in the cafeteria. You must provide your own transportation. You will be able to pick up scrubs at that time, and there should be an election of officers.

4. The Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce has announced that they annual Christmas Parade will be Saturday, December 3rd at 11:00. They invited all school clubs and organizations to participate. The theme is “Tis the Season”, and cash prizes will be awarded for the top three floats.

5. ECO club meeting Wednesday at lunch in Mrs. Miller’s room.

6. No food is to leave the Bears Den. . .this includes slushies.

7. Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) will meet on Thursday at 7:45 a.m. in Mr. Kuhlmeier’s room. You do NOT have to be an athlete to come!

6. BASKETBALL SHIRT ORDER FORMS: If you would like to order a basketball shirt you may pick up an order form in Connie’s office. Youth sizes are available as well as adult. They can either order Maroon/White or Dark Gray/White. Deadline to order is  MONDAY.

7. Students/English Teachers STAR testing makeup days will be  MONDAY, any student who was not here for the test will need to come to the library during their scheduled English classes to makeup the test.

9. Juniors and seniors who are interested in taking the dual credit college psychology class second semester may take that class either 3rd or 4th block. You must come to Mrs. Doughty’s room at 8:30 on Wednesday to apply. You won’t need any money at this time. Please bring pencils and your social security number.

10. SPANISH SOCIETY MEMBERS~~Come to the Spanish room and sign up for the elementary carnival fundraiser. Make money for your ticket!!! Carnival is Friday Nov. 4th from 5:00-7:30.

11. Drop off boxes for Bears for a Better Christmas are in your English Teachers’ classrooms. Take your books, warm items, and toys and put them in the gift boxes. Make a child’s Christmas dreams come true!!

12. The Josten’s rep will be here Wednesday to meet with all seniors in the Bears Den at 10:00. He will be meeting with the officers at 9:00.

13. Friday is the Fall Blood Drive. Please sign up for the drive as soon as possible at Miss Tina’s office window. You must be 16 to donate with a signed permission letter. Students older than 16 need to sign up but will not need a permission letter in order to donate. All participants will receive a free “56 Days Later” t-shirt for attempting to donate.

Girls, remember to keep your iron levels up with an iron-rich diet and/or a multi-vitamin that contains iron. Because iron takes time to be absorbed by the body, you will need to start working on your iron levels now.

4. JUNIORS AND SENIORS – We are thinking about offering a new dual credit class second semester. The class is college psychology, and it will be offered 3rd block. Any student listed below currently meets the basic enrollment requirement of an accumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Other requirements will be discussed at a meeting in the library on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. The cost will be approximately $120.00 for three hours of college credit. (History 122 students will not be able to take this class since it will be offered 3rd block.) Students who may attend the meeting if they are interested are:

Dear Santa,

7. Congratulations to the All District Softball players; Alexis Privette Honorable Mention! Emily Durnell, Kyra Bunch, and Kyndall Bunch 1st team! We also had two players that made the All Regional Team; Emily Durnell (Pitcher) 2nd team all regional and Kyndall Bunch (catcher) 1st team all regional! CONGRATS LADIES! We are very proud of these honors! It’s a GREAT day to be a BEAR!

8. BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYERS: There will be no open gym this week. You may meet Coach Mallow immediately after school Thursday to take care of the following items: get a locker, get a lock, turn in paperwork, or pick up shoes or travel gear for which you have already paid. Practice begins next Monday at 3:00. You must have ALL your paper work turned in before you will be allowed to practice. You are required to watch practice even if your paper work is incomplete.

1. Our 1st quarter attendance assembly THU at 9:00 a.m. in the new gym.

2. School will dismiss at 11:37 THU for Parent/Teacher Conferences. In order to provide lunches that day, we will dismiss the 11th & 12th grade students a few minutes early to get their lunches and then report to Bear time. The 9th & 10th graders will eat their lunches in the Bears’ Den as usual.

3. Students and teachers Coach Pitts will have library books for sale thru THU, prices ranging from$.25-$1/. Stop by before or after school to look at them.

4. If you want to be in a different Tier 1 Bear Time for the beginning of 2nd quarter, or if you anticipate that you are going to be placed in Tier 1, please let Mrs. James or Connie know which class you would like to be placed in by the end of 6th block TODAY.

5. Students taking the ACT this Saturday should remember to take your admission ticket, a pictorial ID (driver’s license), your calculator, and at least two #2 pencils. Students testing at Cabool – there will be no heat in the testing rooms so you should dress appropriately.

6. School picture retakes are next Wednesday. If you did not have your picture taken in September then you will need to plan to have your picture taken Wednesday. Stop by Miss Tina office window to pick up a picture packet form if you wish to purchase a photo package.

7. Mr. Knapp needs 3 volunteers for the football game cookout this Friday and 4 for the last regular season game next Thursday.

8. The FFA will need reliable workers Friday night to park cars at the football game. Start parking cars at 5:20 Whitney Clinton and Ashley Hardisty will be in charge. We will pick up trash Monday when we return to school.

9. Hunter safety classes will be held October 25th & 27th from 5:30-8:30 and Saturday October 29th from 8:00-1:00. Participants must be 11 years old to attend. All sessions must be attended in order to receive credit. Classes will be held in the high school ag building. YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THE CLASSES ONLINE. . .SEE CONNIE FOR INSTRUCTIONS. 1. Lady Bear Softball 2011, Class 2 District 3 CHAMPS!!!! Willow will be hosting the sectional game WED at Booster Field at 5:00. The Lady Bears will face Dixon the Class 2 District 4 winner. It’s a GREAT day to be a Bear!

2. Everyone needs to report to the new gym at 2:30 WED for a pep assembly to recognize Bethany Carter who advanced to sectional tennis yesterday (2nd place in districts!) and the girls softball team who are advancing to sectional softball (district champs!).

3. Internship assignments are due WED.

4. The Lady Bears Softball team will need to meet in Coach Weinhaus’ room during first lunch WED.

5. The Library will be closed WED for PSAT’s.

6. Seniors please come down and check out your Sr Project books that were bought at Barnes and Noble this week.

9. Good morning to everyone!! I have included a link of the Coke Rewards program, this is a program we have been a part of since last year in the high school. You will find Coke Reward codes on bottle lids, inside of 12/24 packages, and now McDonald’s Monopoly pieces. So if you drink Coke products and are not saving the codes for yourself, please send them my way, I will type the information into our account myself if you will just send me the code!!

10. Students planning to join Medical Explorers this year must turn in their application and their money to Mrs. Petrus by the end of the day on Thursday. Members last year must pay $20.00 for dues. New members must pay $40.00 ($20.00 dues/ $20.00 scrubs). Make checks to St. Francis Hospital.

11. A REMINDER TO NHS APPLICANTS: Be sure that the essays you write as part of the application process meet our standards of excellence. If you want feedback on your essay, be sure to give it to a trusted faculty member in plenty of time for them to get it back to you in time to make any necessary changes. NHS applications are due before 3 p.m. on Monday, October 17th.
