THE A+ PROGRAM
The A+ Schools program was established as part of the Outstanding Schools Act of 1993. As an A+ school grant recipient, Willow Springs High School was charged with developing a variety of new educational opportunities for students. Once these requirements are achieved, WSHS will be designated a Missouri A+ school and will have the responsibility of maintaining the program.
Every student who attends Willow Springs High School is a participant in the A+ schools program. The benefit to the individual student is dependent on the student's level of commitment to take advantage of the opportunities. Tutoring, job shadowing, applied academics, career counseling, internships, dual credit, and post-secondary financial assistance are a part of the program. It is the student's responsibility to know the program requirements and procedures.
Willow Springs High School was designated as an A+ School by the Missouri State School Board during their April 1998 meeting. All students that graduate from Willow Springs High School will be entitled to free tuition, books, and fees at a designated Missouri public community college, vocational or technical school. Students will have four years after graduation from WSHS to complete two years of full-time enrollment at a community college or vocational/technical school. Qualifying students will have an official A+ Schools stamp/seal placed on their high school transcript.
Eligibility requirements for the A+ financial incentives are:
1. Enter into a written agreement with the high school during the last three years prior to graduation.
2. Have attended a designated school for three consecutive years prior to graduation.
3. Have at least a ninety-five (95%) attendance record for the four-year period immediately prior to graduation.
4. Graduate from high school with a cumulative grade point average of a minimum of two point five (2.5) on a four point (4.0) scale.
5. Perform fifty (50) hours of unpaid tutoring/mentoring to younger students.
6. Maintain a good record of "good citizenship" and avoidance of unlawful use of drugs.
7. Makes a documented "good faith" effort to secure all available federal post-secondary student financial assistance that does not require repayment.
An individual file will be maintained on each student participating with a signed A+ Agreement. Forms are available in the A+ Schools Office and the Counseling Center.
