American Legion Programs – Missouri Cadet Patrol Academy (June 3rd – June 8th) Applicants must be 16 -18 years old, must have a “C” average or higher, must furnish own transportation to and from the Academy, must be of good moral character and come well recommended, must be in excellent physical condition and able to participate in a rigorous physical program, and must be endorsed by an American Legion Post. AXA Achievement Community Scholarship – Applicants must demonstrate ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, and ability to succeed in college. Applications are available at www.axa-achievement.com. Deadline: February 1, 2012
Best Buy Scholarship – Students with good grades and volunteer hours should apply at www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com or www.at15.com. Deadline: February 15, 2012
Christos House 2nd Annual Writing Contest – February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Prevention Month, and Christos House is sponsoring a Writing Contest. The theme is “Love What’s Real.” It can be a poem, song, prose, story, or essay. The length should effectively communicate the message. The work must be creative and original. Avoid cliché words and images constantly seen in the media. Entries will be judged on effectiveness of message, creativity, originality, and imagery. Pick up a submission form and then submit your entry to christoshousesupport@hotmail.com. Deadline: February 10, 2012
Columbia College Scholarship Day – Students participate in scholarship competition that can increase eligibility for scholarships, grants and endowed funds to be awarded and applied toward the cost of attendance at Columbia College. Dr. Darrell “Jack” Holley Scholarship – Only one application from a district can be submitted. (6) $2,000 scholarships are available. Applicants must be strong in academics, have definite career plans, be involved in several school activities, have held positions of leadership, and have been involved in community activities. A faculty committee will select the application that will be submitted. Deadline: February 1, 2012

EngineerGirl! Food Engineering Essay Contest – 2012 – Students in grades 9-12 choose a food from a given list and explain how it is produced, from the planting and harvesting of raw material to being ready to eat. Choose a technology critical to one or more steps in that process and explain how it works. Describe how different types of engineers (e.g. civil, mechanical, electrical, etc.) might have contributed to the design of the technology as well as key elements of that design. Talk about what engineers are currently doing to improve this technology. Be sure to include references. (no more than 1500 words) Go to www.engineergirl.org/CMS/Contest/food2012.aspx to apply. Girls State – (June 24 – June 30) The Girls State program provides young women who have just finished their Junior year in high school the opportunity to study city, county and state government. It enforces the understanding that every person is an integral part of the political process and has a responsibility to make tomorrow a better time. See Mrs. Petrus to apply. Deadline: No deadline given: usually around March 15th.
Northwest Missouri State University STEM Scholarship – Talented but financially disadvantaged students, including those from underrepresented groups such as women and minorities, are encouraged to apply for a 4-year scholarship that will help pay for their tuition and expenses. Students must study computing. Students must apply to Northwest Missouri State University and select computer science or interactive digital media-computer science as a major. Then they may apply for the STEM-SCHOLAR scholarship. Deadline: February 28, 2012
Physical Therapy Specialists Clinic Memorial Scholarships – Nine scholarships are available this year. They are $1,000 each. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and an ACT of 23 or better. Scholarship applicants will be judged on the following criteria: 65% personal and leadership qualities and 35% academic accomplishment.
Applications must be typed, and Mrs. Petrus must verify your testing scores. Deadline: February 17, 2012 – due in their office by 5:00 p.m.
Jobert J. Studkey Essay Contest – The contest is open to Missouri High School students in grades 9 – 12. Only one entry will be accepted from each school. The essay should be between 1,200 and 1,500 words in length and should address one or more aspects of books and reading. See Mrs. Petrus for more details.
SAMMY 2012 Award – Students will be judged on academic performance (5%), athletic excellence (35%), leadership (15%), community service (10%), and milk experience (5%). Apply online at bodybymilk.com. Deadline: March 9, 2012
Stephens College School of Design and Fashion 2012 Creative Expression Fashion Project Competition – This competition is in coordination with the Prom Fashion Show at Stephens College. The winners of the competition will win a Prom Makeover and the Grand Prize winner will receive a $1,000 Scholarship to Stephens College and a VIP Prom Party. Fill out an application and upload your project at www.stephens.edu/prom. The link will be available starting January 10, 2012 and must be uploaded no later than Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.
University of Mississippi – Lott Leadership Institute for high school juniors (May 28- June 29 or June 25 – July 27) Cost: $600 plus textbooks and weekend meals.
Students will earn six hours of college credit while participating in discussion groups, panels, and debates on issues confronting leaders of the 21st century. Participants will also travel to Washington D.C. to participate in discussions with state and national leaders. Some scholarships are available. Only 22 students per session will be admitted.

Wonderland Camp is a residential summer camp for children and adults with special needs located at the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.
