We had all 78 seniors complete their Senior Project in 2010 and nearly 200 judges and volunteers all worked together to make it happen. Thank you all so much for backing a truly high level educational experience for our graduating seniors. We are already looking forward to the class of 2011!

Missouri Junior Science, Engineering and Humanities Symposium will be held March 25 – 27 2010, at the University of Missouri – St. Louis.  This symposium is open to grades 9 – 12.  It will allow students to hear world and nationally-known scientists speak on their research interests, visit laboratories of practicing scientists in industries and universities, and compete for university scholarships and a chance to attend the National JSHS Symposium.  Students may apply for scholarship to cover the cost of the Symposium or pay $140 fee to attend.  Apply at http://www.umsl.edu/~sep/ Deadline December 1, 2009

The Christian Connector, Inc. – The Christian Connector provides a free Christian college information service as well as a $2,500 Christian college scholarship drawing.  Students can log onto www.christianconnector.com to request information and automatically be entered in the $2,500 scholarship drawing.  No Deadline given.

University of Kansas is holding audition Days.  Audition Application Forms are available at http://music.ku.edu/music/.

University of Missouri – Kansas City is holding audition Days.  Go to http://conservatory.umkc.edu for a list of specific dates.  Audition requests must be received in writing at least 30 days in advance of the audition date.

US Bank Internet Scholarship Program – US Bank will award (30 – 40) $1,000 scholarships in a random drawing.  There are no specific requirements and no essays to write.  Apply online at usbank.com/studentloans.

Finally, at 3:30 that afternoon, all of their hard work began to pay off. As Willow Springs High opened up its doors, people of the community and surrounding towns filed in to see what exactly all of these kids had been up to this year. I’m sure they were all quite impressed, as I was. I couldn’t believe how creative and dedicated these students were! The Senior Showcase ended at about 5:00 p.m. and the students prepared for their big moments.

Approximately 145 local teachers and educators from other schools and various other community members were present as judges. There were over 200 volunteers in all. Some of the teachers from schools such as Norwood, Branson, Holden, and West Plains were here to judge the presentations as well as observe how the evening is run, as they are looking into instituting senior projects into their schools, as well.

As I walked up and down through the hallways, I saw many nervous seniors waiting to present, silently reciting their speech; then, as they walked out of the classroom doors where they had just presented, they walked with their heads held high and with a sense of accomplishment. They all said they were relieved that the presentations were over and that they’re looking forward to finally being able to relax after their senior Valedictories are turned in.

The sponsor program gives businesses, individuals and civic groups the opportunity to share their resources to give substantial scholarships to WSHS graduates. A $3,000 tuition scholarships will be given to six 2008 WSHS graduates. Ten graduates will receive $500 textbook scholarships and one student will receive a $3,000 2nd year of study scholarship.
