2.    The JV/V G BB will be playing at Ava TONIGHT for the conference championship. . .they are 16-4, 4-0 in the SCA.  Let’s show our support at Ava Thursday night.

Johnson and Julia Jenigan.  Across from Mr. Wickens’ room you can see Art 1 projects by Tyler Owens, Natalie Patterson, and Katerina Seu and some advanced art by, Emily Wehmer, Annina Fremgen, and Summer Hanson.  These are all impressive so, check them out!   ENJOY!

Engineer Girl! Food Engineering Essay Contest – 2012 – Students in grades 9-12 choose a food from a given list and explain how it is produced, from the planting and harvesting of raw material to being ready to eat. Choose a technology critical to one or more steps in that process and explain how it works. Describe how different types of engineers (e.g. civil, mechanical, electrical, etc.) might have contributed to the design of the technology as well as key elements of that design. Talk about what engineers are currently doing to improve this technology. Be sure to include references. (no more than 1500words) Go to www.engineergirl.org/CMS/Contest/food2012.aspx to apply. Christos House 2nd Annual Writing Contest –February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Prevention Month, and Christos House is sponsoring a Writing Contest. The theme is “Love What’s Real.” It can be a poem, song, prose, story, or essay. The length should effectively communicate the message. The work must be creative and original. Avoid cliché words and images constantly seen in the media. Entries will be judged on effectiveness of message, creativity, originality, and imagery. 3.    JUNIORS:  The University of Mississippi is offering the Lott Leadership Institute (May 28- June 29 or June 25 – July 27). The cost is $600 plus textbooks and weekend meals.  Students will earn six hours of college credit while participating in discussion groups, panels, and debates on issues confronting leaders of the 21st century.  Participants will also travel to Washington D.C. to participate in discussions with state and national leaders.  Some scholarships are available.  Only 22 students per session will be admitted.  Deadline:  January 16, 2012

4.    The Jobert J. Studkey Essay Contest is open to Missouri High School students in grades 9 – 12.  Only one entry will be accepted from each school.  The essay should be between1,200 and 1,500 words in length and should address one or more aspects of books and reading.  See Mrs. Petrus for more details.

Studkey Essay Contest is open to Missouri High School students in grades 9 – 12.  Only one entry will be accepted from each school.  The essay should be between1,200 and 1,500 words in length and should address one or more aspects of books and reading.  See Mrs. Petrus for more details.
  6. The Willow Springs Arts Council is presenting the 2012 Film Festival to be held at the Star Theater.  The movies are free to the public and we are always interested in sharing with the youth in our community.
    January 7 – “A Trip to the Moon”  main feature film “Safety Last”
  7. The YMCA is looking for a few students who would be willing to help out at their Pee Wee basketball games.  You would be working the gate and in the concession stand. You would work from 8:30 a.m. to a little after noon. This would be an excellent and easy way to get some community service hours.  You can sign up in Mrs. Miller’s room.
