6th Grade Students Are Having A Great Year
Submitted by Mrs. R. Owens
The year seems to be going by so quickly for the 6th graders! They have been involved in many activities. They ended the month of September with a visit to West Plains. They were able to visit with a children’s book author, Alexandria LaFaye, and learn about how she discovered her love of writing. She was a wonderful speaker and we were thrilled with the different accents she used while reading from some of her books. We were able to envision an Irish father as well as a southern girl from the 1920′s. Following the author visit, the 6th grade class went to Buck Park for a picnic lunch and scavenger hunt. There were many prizes given and it was confirmed that the 6th grade class has many creative and intelligent students as they found the answers to the scavenger hunt with their partners. The field trip was a wonderful success with learning, activity and engagement in socialization occuring for all involved.
The week of October 13th, the entire 6th grade class enjoyed two plays presented by Mrs. Melby’s 6th grade Social Studies extension class. These two groups of students worked very hard to create a memorable play involving some famous individuals including George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We were able to watch a play presented by both classes and learn more about Social Studies and our rich American history at the same time. Mrs. Melby’s classes did a wonderful job performing and we can see some terrific actors will be joining the ranks in the drama field.
